My Bristol Favourites: Bryony Roberts
Bryony Roberts is content director at We The Curious, which is reopening on Tuesday after being closed since April 2022 due to a fire on its roof.
Bryony trained as a teacher and taught in secondary schools in Warwickshire, before completing an MA in acting and becoming education manager at the Old Vic in London.
After moving to Bristol, she initially worked at Tobacco Factory Theatres where she helped set up their engagement programme including their first ever Youth Theatre in 2015, before joining We The Curious.
is needed now More than ever
These are Bryony’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Bristol Balloon Fiesta
“We love going to Ashton Court for the 6am morning ascents at Bristol Balloon Fiesta. Up first thing with my partner and two daughters, grab some breakfast when we’re there, and enjoy the music and atmosphere as the balloons inflate and head off into the sky! We’ve done it almost every year since moving to Bristol and absolutely love it! Though, it always feels like lunchtime by 9am!”
Royal West of England Academy

Rasheed Araeen’s Conscious Forms exhibition is at the RWA until August
“We popped into the RWA one time to see what it was about and had a great time! There’s so much to see, with regularly changing exhibitions (most of it free) and a brilliant family area downstairs that kept my kids entertained for ages. Plus the building itself is beautiful.”
The Christmas show at Tobacco Factory Theatres

“My dad’s birthday is in December so this has become a family tradition to see the Christmas show at Tobacco Factory Theatres every year. It’s always guaranteed to be heart-warming, funny, interactive (my kids love the chance to get involved!) and just pure joy. Plus, the Factory Theatre is my absolute favourite theatre space. It’s so intimate and friendly. I love it!”
Bokman

“This tiny restaurant on Nine Tree Hill just off Stokes Croft is a great experience and not just for the food (which is delicious!). At Bokman, you are up close and personal with all the other customers as you’re squished into what essentially feels like someone’s front room. And you share all the food you order, so if you don’t fancy sharing – this is not the place for you! The staff are brilliant at making recommendations and, as I mentioned, the food is delicious.”
Pill path

The Pill path heads from Bristol to Pill on the opposite side of the River Avon from the Portway – photo: Martin Booth
“The cycle path from Bristol to Bath is well used but I love going the other way, heading out of the city to Pill and Portishead. From We The Curious on Millennium Square, you follow the Floating Harbour towards the Cumberland Basin, cross over the New Cut via Ashton Avenue Bridge, turn right and join the start of the Pill path which heads under the Suspension Bridge and alongside Leigh Woods. I’ve often cycled, ran and occasionally just walked with friends along the path (in both directions) and, when the river is up and the sun is shining, the views are spectacular. It’s a great escape from the city.”
