My Bristol Favourites: Gamba Cole

By Betty Woolerton  Tuesday Jun 11, 2024

Acclaimed actor Gamba Cole is one of the special guest panellists in this year’s EatDrink24/7 guide, which is currently being distributed across Bristol.

Gamba grew up in St Paul’s before moving to London to complete his education.

He is best known for starring in Stephen Merchant’s hit comedy drama, The Outlaws, whose third season has just been released on BBC iPlayer and Prime Video.

These are Gamba’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Bravas

Bravas on Cotham Hill is an amazing tapas restaurant. I think the menu changes often but there are always great choices especially if you love seafood like me.”

Cafe Cuba

“The best mojitos in the whole of Bristol! The food is amazing too. If you want authentic Cuban/Caribbean food there is no other place to go apart from Cafe Cuba.”

Gambas

“Not just because of the name, but because of the name. Gambas is a really nice and intimate restaurant for tapas. Fun fact: I took my now girlfriend there on our very first date and she thought I owned it! Maybe one day.”

Jerk King

“Honourable mention to Jerk King. Their jerk chicken is the best I have had in Bristol. They make their own hot sauce too. Usually based at the Bristol Rovers’ Memorial Stadium so my Gasheads know exactly what I am talking about.”

Rice & Things

Bristol just wouldn’t be the same without a cloud of smoke blowing from Rice & Things’ rickety metal barrel barbecue smoking away on the pavement on Cheltenham Road – photo: Betty Woolerton

“Jamaican food that tastes exactly like back home. Generous portion sizes and the staff are really friendly. However, it’s not an eat-in restaurant.”
