These are Kate’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Goat Gully

Goats help restore wildflower-rich grassland in the Avon Gorge by munching woody species like bramble and scrub which – photo: Friends of the Downs and Avon Gorge
“Avon Gorge is the perfect place to escape to for a nice walk. And if the scenery wasn’t enough, there are Bristol’s very own Billy-Goats Gruff. The goats can sometimes be hard to spot, making it even more special when you do see them!”
Karaoke at The Lanes
“I love to sing the night away at The Lanes. It’s also a firm favourite with friends and colleagues. You can usually find me belting out Ironic by Alanis Morrisette. Plus, the pizza is excellent.”
Ashton Court parkrun
“Nothing beats starting my weekend with Ashton Court parkrun. The first half uphill can be pretty brutal, but seeing the deer roaming the estate provides a great distraction. Once you reach the top you’re rewarded with some lush views. After the 5k, I grab a post-run coffee at the cafe.”
Spice Up Your Life

“Spice Up Your Life is based at St Nicholas Market and has been my favourite lunch spot for the last 15 years. My order? The veggie special: curry, rice, poppadum and a side of dahl. Delicious!”
Bristol’s Own

“I’m lucky enough to work opposite Bristol Children’s Hospital and see Bristol’s Own every day. This sculpture was originally a part of Gromit Unleashed 2, The Grand Appeal’s third arts trail. Our city’s love for Gromit Unleashed and, most importantly, the millions it has raised for sick children in Bristol is amazing. Nowadays, Bristol’s Own is used as a selfie spot. I’ll meet Grand Appeal fundraisers from all over the South West, and celebrate their achievements with a photo and giant cheque. I’ve met thousands of supporters over the years, who are truly inspiring and we’re thankful for each and every one of them.”
