My Bristol Favourites: Megan Clark-Bagnall and Claudia Collins
Megan Clark-Bagnall and Claudia Collins, better known as Meg and Claud, are two artists who both live and work in Knowle West.
Their research and development project, Lights! Lights! Lights!, explores the Christmas Lights in Knowle West, documenting and celebrating the art form as it is today, and investigating what happens behind the lights.
These are Meg and Claud’s top-five Bristol favourites:
is needed now More than ever
The roof of Broadwalk Shopping Centre

“Another perspective of Knowle, looking down on the park one side or cricket club the other and seeing the sunset before a game of bingo – the secret underground gem of Broadwalk that serves up £2 meals on a Tuesday. The best carpet in the whole of Bristol. Even Gareth Gates performed there. Last time Meg played there, her friend won £500!”
Everyman Cinema

“Meg has a three-year-old and Sunday mornings used to be for hangovers and fried eggs. Now they are for Toddler Club at the pix. One ticket costs just over a tenner and includes a sofa for you and your babe, and includes a frothy coffee and a slice of cake. Turns out you can buy 90 minutes of chill time! The only thing that beats the Everyman Cinema on Whiteladies Road is when Filwood Community Centre have their cinema screening and roller skating nights. Catching Back to the Future and zooming round the hall in skates is as much a win as ‘living’ the Clifton life for the day.”
Bristol Lido

“Meg has a bath IN her garden. I KNOW! She loves an outside wash and couldn’t believe her luck when after almost four years waiting she was offered a place at the Lido in Clifton. Sitting in the sauna and pretending you’re on a beach in the Med is Meg’s new fave pastime.”
Springfield Allotments

“Wander Gather host different events at the Roundhouse in Springfield Allotments in Knowle West; normally around the different seasons throughout the year. I (Claud) went along to their first food and fire event. It was magic. I met a Jack Russell called Pepsi, we ate soup, watched a fox play, then if people wanted to they took it in turns to offer a song or a poem. Slow living just off the Bommie.”
Chez Marcel

“We love nothing more than a work meeting over a crêpe here at Chez Marcel in the Old City. Feels like you are really in France. The tables are dressed with fresh flowers. The staff are super friendly. The food is DELISH. Meg is gluten free (eye roll) but buckwheat gallettes serve the perfect French friendly GF options. We love their classic ‘La Bec’ (cheese with an egg ontop – we love an egg) or a simple butter and sugar or house chocolate, mmm! Incredible coffee too!”
