My Bristol Favourites: Nathan Searle

By Martin Booth  Thursday Aug 22, 2024

Nathan Searle is the drummer in Bristol band Adult Leisure, who are playing their only hometown headline date of 2024 on August 29 at Dareshack.

The alt-indie fourpiece have recently released a new single, Borderline, and will soon be heading to Europe for the first time to play the Live At Heart festival in Sweden.

These are Nathan’s top-five Bristol favourites:

The Louisiana

“When it comes to music venues in Bristol, few can rival the rich history of the Louisiana. This iconic venue, with its incredible atmosphere and dedicated team, has become a cornerstone of the city’s music scene. We played our first ever show as Adult Leisure here to a sold-out crowd, an experience that will always hold a special place in our hearts. The Louisiana is ingrained in the fabric of Bristol’s music community, offering unwavering support to emerging bands both locally and internationally.”

Football at the Downs on Saturdays

“Every Saturday, I lace up my boots and head to the Downs to play football with my beloved team, Torpedo AFC. There’s something special about playing on those iconic fields, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Downs, that makes each game feel even more exhilarating. The camaraderie, the competition and the pure joy of football come alive in that setting. It’s also where my band shot our first ever music video for the single Things You Don’t Know Yet during a match – though we did lose that game 7-0.”

Coffee Club

“On Saturday mornings, I take a leisurely stroll around the picturesque harbour of our beautiful city, and there’s one stop that’s become a key part of my routine: Coffee Club. Nestled on the waterfront with a perfect view of Banksy’s The Girl With a Pearl Earring, this cosy spot has quickly become my go-to place. It’s the perfect spot to grab a coffee before continuing my walk around the harbour, setting the tone for a great weekend ahead.”

First Choice Cafe

“If you’re searching for the best no-nonsense builder’s breakfast in Bristol, look no further than First Choice Cafe. This gem on Two Mile Hill in Kingswood isn’t just my go-to spot for a delicious start to the day – it’s officially a band favourite. In fact, I loved it so much that we chose it as the backdrop for our music video for the single Bad Idea.”

Pizza Palace

“Pizza Palace always gets the job done,” says Nathan – photo: Martin Booth

“Pizza Palace on St Augustine’s Parade is my absolute go-to for a late-night snack after a night out. There’s just something about their pizza that hits the spot when you need it most. If you’ve watched any of my band’s Leisure TV episodes, you’ll know I have a bit of a reputation for being a pizza fanatic, and Pizza Palace is a big reason why. The pizzas are always hot, cheesy and just what I need to wrap up the night. For me, Pizza Palace always gets the job done. No frills, just good pizza when you want it most.”
