My Bristol Favourites: Pocket Sun
Pocket Sun are an alternative pop, psychedelic, and jazz group charaterised by catchy grooves and wavy synths.
Their latest single, Hidden Places, dives into the complexities of human relationships, exploring themes of anticipation, change, and the delicate dance between anxious and avoidant attachment styles.
To celebrate their album launch, the band will be performing at the Jam Jar in September.

These are members of Pocket Sun’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Eastwood Farm, Brislington

Seb (bass): “When the summer heat gets unbearable and I need to cool down I like to go for a swim at Eastwood Farm. The pub garden at Beese’s is also next level.”
Snooker City

Guitarist Laurence says that Snooker City is a hidden gem for those who love pub games – photo: Daniel Garrod
Laurence (guitar, vocals): “Hidden underground beneath Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Knowle, Snooker City is a hidden gem for those who love pub games. Living in a busy city with such a vibrant music scene I often go to Snooker City with a friend for some quiet respite. With an entrance that feels like you’re entering a disused nuclear bunker, the social club suddenly opens up to a vibrant bar area with skittles, darts and pool, before leading into the snooker hall which boasts 12 full size snooker tables. I find the quiet clicking of balls quite therapeutic and love to go there to rest my ears after gigs or long mixing sessions. The staff are really friendly and they even allow you to bring in your own food!”
Filthy XIII

Lead vocalist Gina enjoys the “great cosy and quirky vibe” at Filthy XIII on Cheltenham Road – photo: Lowie Travena
Gina (vocals, synth, saxophone): “My current favourite place in Bristol would be the tucked away cocktail bar, Filthy XIII. It feels hidden away and low key. It took me a while to even know it was there even though it’s metres away from my house! But it’s got a great cosy and quirky vibe, and I love their banana tequila, it’s strange and delicious!”
The top of Trenchard Street Car Park

Keyboard player Rob loves the 360 degree view of the city centre from the roof of Trenchard Street Car Park – photo: Milan Perera
Rob (keyboard, vocals): “My favourite place in Bristol is the top level of Trenchard Street Car Park on a sunny day. You get a 360-degree view and it makes you feel like the seagulls and pigeons that live up there. It’s normally quiet and peaceful but sometimes you can meet some interesting people. I once got involved in a Voi race and won a beer.”
Snuff Mills

“When I need a break from the hustle and bustle, Snuff Mills is a great place to collect your thoughts and come up with new ideas,” says drummer Hugh Sarjeant – photo: Benji Chapman
Hugh Sarjeant (drums): “I love how there’s a beautiful piece of nature in the middle of the city. When I need a break from the hustle and bustle, Snuff Mills is a great place to collect your thoughts and come up with new ideas.”
