Rees appoints two new ‘international ambassadors’ for Bristol
Tasked with promoting Bristol around the world, Mena Fombo and Silas Adekunle are the city’s newest international ambassadors.
“Mena and Silas were chosen for their outstanding achievements,” said Bristol mayor Marvin Rees.
“They are both brilliant speakers and have great global connections, so are perfect to promote our international goals.

Fombo is the founder and director of Black Girl Convention, who has both a BA and an honorary doctorate from UWE Bristol, as well as a BSc from the University of Bath.
She has spoken at TEDx Bristol and is a business consultant across all areas relating to young people, the cultural and tech sector, inclusion, and intersectional diversity.
Adekunle is the co-founder and CEO of Reach Robotics, which closed in September after a whirlwind six years, during which it rose to fame as one of Bristol’s most acclaimed startups.
The technology entrepreneur, best known for creating the world’s first intelligent gaming robot, was named as Bristol24/7’s Man of the Year 2018 and one of Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe in both the technology and entrepreneurship categories
He is currently building a company that enables robotics across Africa and another developing AI engines for service robots.
Last year’s selected international ambassadors were Carolyn Hassan, founder and director of Knowle West Media Centre; Ivor Anderson, aka DJ Bunjy, from Laid Blak; and boxing manager, promoter and trainer Chris Sanigar.
The unpaid role sees ambassadors given the task “to promote Bristol around the world and raise awareness of the diverse and vibrant aspects of the city”.
