How you can help fight Bristol’s plastic pollution
In a campaign run by the Global Goals Centre, in collaboration with Bristol24/7, a new local hero is being celebrated every week for their work to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change.
This week of the campaign, the focus of the Sustainable Development Goals is protecting our seas by fighting plastic pollution.
Bristol’s hero, who has been taking positive action to tackle the issue, is Jo Morley. Jo is the head of marketing at City to Sea, an environmental organisation on a mission to stop plastic pollution.
is needed now More than ever
City to Sea nominated Jo for her amazing work on the campaign, Refill, which to date has saved over 100 million pieces of plastic from ending up in the waste stream.
“Oceans are the lifeblood of our planet, and at the moment our oceans are filled with plastic,” said Jo.
“The good news is that there are so many ways that as individuals we can make a difference. Just having a look at everyday plastic items you use and thinking that you can switch for reusable alternatives.”
To help fight the battle against plastic in Bristol, there is a lot you can do. Head to City to Sea for money-saving tips, tricks and plastic-free life–hacks, as well as downloading their free refill app to find places to eat, drink and shop with less plastic across Bristol – with 600 locations already on the app.
Global Goals Centre, an education charity using creative ways to inspire a fairer, greener future, has worked in partnership with 17 local community organisations, Bristol24/7’s Better Bristol and creative agency Tusko, to create this campaign, which is supported by Bristol City Council and the Bristol Climate Hub.
