Social Impact / Better Bristol

What is Better Bristol?

By Bristol24/7  Monday Nov 26, 2018

Better Bristol is about coming together to have a positive impact on the community. That’s why Bristol24/7 has launched a membership for anyone who wants to support us on this mission.

The initiative is open to individuals, businesses, charities, community groups, restaurants, pubs, theatres – and you – to help shape, support, and enjoy.

How does it work?

Independent journalism
is needed now More than ever
Keep our city's journalism independent.

Hundreds of you have been telling us, through online surveys and at events, what you love about Bristol, what you think will make it better and the steps we could all take to improve our city.

Housing and homelessness, mental health, the environment, transport, education, community spaces, and integration are just some of the areas you’re passionate about. And let’s not forget free cider!

The areas you highlight will help us shape the Better Bristol initiative, from the stories we tell to the social projects we get involved in. Projects such as our Young Chefs Programme, supporting young people who are not in education or employment to learn skills in the kitchen and get a cooking qualification.

What happens next?

You have also told us that you want Bristol24/7 to tackle social and environmental issues. We’ve listened and we’re putting social purpose at the heart of what we do by launching Better Bristol.

This means taking on a new sense of responsibility to create changes that will genuinely make life better for people in Bristol. This is a big responsibility and we can’t do it without your support.

That’s why we’re inviting you to become a member of Bristol24/7. By joining you will be supporting your local independent media outlet to create a better city. You’ll also get access to lots of exclusive treats, but we’ll tell you more about that soon!

Here’s how we promise to create a Better Bristol:

  • Invest in the people of Bristol by creating projects that have a direct impact on people’s lives.
  • Inspire communities and celebrate diversity by amplifying the voices of marginalised communities.
  • Be independent and write for one audience: the people of Bristol.
  • Include everyone by creating opportunities for everyone to get involved and share their views.
  • Have integrity and be honest in everything we do.
