From running around a park to the Great Bristol 10k
Every Sunday morning, dozens of runners gather on the runway of the former Whitchurch Airport for either a 2k or 5k run around Hengrove Park.
The free runs have been taking place since January and are part of Great Run Local, with the community already coming together and supporting each other.

Two of the Great Run Local volunteer event coordinators, Catherine Chalmers and Rhiannon Annandale, were among the runners at the launch of this year’s Great Bristol 10k, which they will both be running alongside some friends from Hengrove.
“Seeing the community come together every Sunday morning is such a buzz,” Catherine said. “Everybody helps everybody else.”
“Everybody is just so friendly, it’s so great to see,” Rhiannon added.
Among other runners at the launch of the Great Bristol 10k 2020, which takes place on May 3, were representatives from the University of Bristol and UWE Bristol who are both entering hundreds of runners into the race.
The University of Bristol race ambassador is former Great British Bake-Off contestant Briony Williams, who posed for selfies with Wallace and Gromit on the terrace of We The Curious – with the Grand Appeal charity partners for the family run.

Andy Graffin from the Great Run Company, who have organised the Bristol 10k for five years, said that Bristol is “livelier” than most of the other cities that host similar runs.
“Bristol has its own feeling, its own uniqueness, and that comes through in both the Great Bristol 10k and the Great Bristol Half Marathon.
“There is a proudness in Bristol, the crowds out on the course are always great and there is always an amazing atmosphere around the harbourside afterwards, with runners having a drink with their kit still on and their medal around their neck.”
