‘Let’s celebrate and support the businesses that give our city its charm’
As another summer rolls around at Burra, we find ourselves – like all independent businesses – navigating the hospitality storm.
The industry, an essential tenet of Bristol’s vibrant identity, has been impacted heavily over the past 18 months with established venues closing their doors. The need to address this has never been more urgent.
While concerns have been voiced about the challenges faced by the hospitality sector, we keep witnessing the painful loss of another local cafe or restaurant.
is needed now More than ever
Amidst these difficult times, it’s the actions we can take as a community to support independents that make Bristol special.
How can we rally together and ensure the survival of our local favourites?
One of the most impactful ways is by spending our hard-earned money within our community.
Choosing to dine, sip and savour at independent establishments not only offers unique experiences but also injects lifeblood into our local economy.
Each purchase, whether it’s a cup of coffee at the local cafe or a delicious meal at the cozy restaurant down the street, becomes an investment in Bristol’s diverse hospitality landscape.

Beyond the wallet, let’s not underestimate the power of spreading the word.
In an era dominated by online platforms, social media has become the megaphone through which we can amplify the voices of independent businesses.
A positive review, a heartfelt recommendation, or even a striking food photo shared with friends can spark curiosity and draw new customers.
That ripple effect of our words and actions can create a groundswell of support that keeps the industry afloat.

Bristol’s independent hospitality scene thrives on collaboration.
In a refreshing initiative, Oatly has joined forces with eight local cafes, introducing a unique ‘disloyalty’ card programme that rewards customers for exploring different establishments while enjoying their favourite drinks.
This July, Burra has excitingly partnered with Big Nath’s BBQ to offer a new weekly special, enticing food enthusiasts to indulge in their flavourful creations.
For those eager to delve into a delightful wine and food pairing experience, mark your calendars for August 4 when Burra Redland will be hosting a memorable evening dedicated to this exquisite combination.
So, Bristolians, let’s make a conscious choice to celebrate and support the businesses that give our city its charm.
By spending our money wisely, amplifying their stories, and advocating for their needs, we can shape a future where Bristol’s hospitality scene remains independent and robust.
Together, we will weather the storm and emerge stronger than ever before.
