Bristol hosts ICC World Cup semi-final
Bristol hosted one of its most prestigious ever sporting events on Tuesday as England narrowly beat South Africa by two wickets in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup.
Eight matches took place at the Brightside Ground over the course of the tournament, with a fanzone also being set up in Millennium Square earlier this month.
On Tuesday the historic Ashley Down stadium was once again filled with a majority of young fans, many of whom were playing their own games of cricket around the perimeters of the ground.

There were also plenty of activities to keep the crowds entertained away from the field of play, including testing the speed of your bowling and writing good luck messages on a giant inflatable cricket ball.
As England’s innings progressed, the tension grew after the home team lost six wickets for 78 runs.
Every single run scored was clapped enthusiastically before number 10 batter Anya Shrubsole hit a four with just two balls to spare, securing England a place in the sold-out final at Lord’s against Australia or India on Sunday.
