Colourful new addition unveiled at Gloucestershire Cricket Club

By Megan Dean  Monday Jul 29, 2019

Gloucestershire Cricket Club have finished their new decorative renovations to the cricket ground, emphasising their acceptance of  “all ages, genders and races”.

Bristol street artist Silent Hobo created a mural, which can be seen when entering through the gates at Nevil Road into the grounds, and a cricket ball with the club crest upon it bursts out of the wall next to the gates.

The colourful murals were designed to reflect the club’s colours, yellow and black, and reflect the  vibrant community the club is proud to be a part of.

“It is important to us at Gloucestershire Cricket to reflect our place in the city and community,” says Will Brown, chief executive of Gloucestershire Cricket Club.

“Bristol is one of the most internationally renowned street art cities and the Gloucester Road area itself is a haven of colourful street art, reflecting its creative neighbourhood.

The street art designs have reimagined scenes from cricket’s past and includes a giant depiction of the cricketer WG Grace. A range of male and female cricketers, both young and old, are seen in a contemporary setting featuring famous Bristol landmarks.

The mural’s public debut will be on Wednesday, July 31 at the women’s England vs Australia game.

“We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of this work and look forward to seeing the reaction of visitors to our forthcoming matches,” says Brown.
