‘If we play the cricket we know we can play, results and success will follow’

By Adam Jeffs  Friday Apr 20, 2018

Gloucestershire‘s first home game of the season begins on Friday when they take on Glamorgan in the County Championship.

Later in the year the Brightside Ground will host both women’s and men’s T20 games – the women as part of a triangular series which will see South Africa vs New Zealand and England vs New Zealand both played on June 28; followed by the men of England vs India on July 8.

Floodlit county T20 games at Ashley Down as part of the Vitality Blast start in July, with Glos players looking forward to the season ahead.

Craig Miles says that competition for a place in the team this year will be harder than ever

“Our fans and cricket fans in general look at Gloucestershire to target one-day competitions, but really I think we can push and get into division one,” Craig Miles told Bristol24/7.

“It would be great for the club and I genuinely think we have the squad capable of doing it now.”

Since last season, the club has welcomed new recruits including 23-year-old all-rounder Ryan Higgins, making the competition for places in the championship team harder than ever.

“I think it’s great having these guys come in,” Miles added. “Ryan is a young exciting cricketer, who wants to try and push himself. It’s good that guys like him are looking at Gloucestershire and wanting to come and play for the club.”

Jack Taylor, who was made vice-captain of the County Championship squad at the end of March, also sees a bright future for Gloucestershire.

Jack Taylor was named Gloucestershire Cricket vice-captain in March

“Last season we played some good cricket and then we played some bad cricket, so we really need to level that out,” Taylor said.

“We want to be competitive in everything and we need to play the cricket we know we can play: if we do that, results and success will follow.”

Taylor said he is extremely honoured to take it on his new role: “I wasn’t expecting to be named vice-captain at all. Chris Dent approached me and asked if I would support him during his captaincy and I graciously accepted.”
