Best Bristol City Sales Of The Last Decade
Bristol City is obviously the best team in Bristol (sorry to the Rovers fans here) and with being the best team in the area they have had the best players out of the 2, over the last few years. Even though the constant selling of their better players is hurting their chances of being one of the favourites to be promoted when you look at Championship odds, the club has never been in a financially better place.
If Bristol City had kept all of their best players over the last 5-10 years then you’d have expected to see them as obvious favourites in the Championship and possibly in the Premier League. But as we know, that is not how it goes for most teams. The bigger clubs end up swooping in and taking what they like. But that is a testament to the recruitment of Bristol City. If they could recruit and keep players you would see a team that is always near the top of the table and one of the most bet on teams in the league. You can keep track of Bristol City’s chances in their upcoming Championship fixtures at the bookies, where betting odds are updated all the time based on expectations going into games.
Alex Scott
Signing Alex Scott from FC Guernsey for 50k when he was still a child proved to be one of the best signings in recent memory for Bristol City and the championship as a whole. He lit the league up and came in as one of the favourites for the Young Player Of The Season in the Championship.
After two full years at Bristol City, Bournemouth and their excellent recruitment came knocking and the 23 million pound fee was hard for Bristol City to turn down for Alex Scott. When he was initially signed by Bournemouth he wasn’t playing as well as he wanted, but now he is getting consistent game time and seems to be a favourite of Iriola.
is needed now More than ever
Adam Webster
Another huge fee and a record sale for Bristol City at the time that has proved to be a good move for him and Brighton. Adam Webster has had quite the career, rising through the ranks in England and even playing on European nights when Brighton defied the betting odds and got Europa League football.
He left Bristol City for 22 million at 24 years old and five years later, he has improved a lot and been an anchor in the heart of Brighton’s defence. Arguably, Adam Webster has been one of the most underrated players in the Premier League over the last few years and is underrated by Premier League fans.
Unfortunately for Webster, Van Hecke and Dunk seem to be the favoured pairing of new Manager Fabian Hürzeler. Van Hecke is a very talented defender and Dunk is one of the best passers in the league, but when Adam Webster plays I always feel like Brighton are slightly stronger and a better pick for those accas.
Bournemouth and Bristol City
Bournemouth have bought many players from Bristol and those are the biggest two however there are two more big sales that have gone straight to the Bournemouth squad.
Lloyd Kelly
A graduate coming through the ranks and making the club incredible amounts of profit is the dream of any football team and Lloyd Kelly is a textbook example of this. Leaving in 2019 for around £15 million and being a staple in a strong Bournemouth team with Eddie Howe at the helm.
At the time of the move, Lloyd Kelly was 20 and one of the most exciting defenders in the league. Eddie Howe and Kelly had a great relationship and rekindled it 5 years later with Kelly letting his contract expire at Bournemouth and signing for Newcastle on a free transfer.
Looking back at Kelly’s time at Bournemouth, it was solid. He had over 140 appearances for the Cherries and although Iriola has come and changed the way Bournemouth played to be better, and usual betting favourites against teams in a similar position to them, Kelly kept his spot in the team despite these changes. This in itself, proves the talent he has.
Antoine Semenyo
Another signing for Bournemouth but this time for just £10 million, Semnyo has proved himself as one of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League this season. He is very clearly trusted by the Bournemouth manager and his fast start in the league is showing everyone why.
