Bristol’s LGBT Panthers FC return
After a three-year absence, Bristol Panthers FC – the city’s only LGBT+ football team – have returned.
Their first game back after years of rebuilding saw them losing 2-0 to East End Phoenix FC in Division 2 of the Gay Football Supporters’ Network League, the world’s only national LGBT football league.
Founded in 2000, the Panthers has accepted players from across the South West LGBT+ and allied community and has recently focused on improving their training sessions to focus on developing skills and tactics while maintaining the atmosphere of a friendly kick-about with friends.

Panthers chairman Rob Parry-Hall says: “I’m delighted that after lots of hard work from everyone on the team, and new players who have joined us, we’re in a position to be playing competitive football against teams from as far afield as London and Leicester.”
The team has also been invited to play regular tournaments across the country and this summer played a variety of fixtures including one-day cup competitions including in Newcastle.
Manager Alex Miles adds that the “squad comprises seasoned players alongside people who hadn’t kicked a football since PE until they came along to our training sessions”.
Training every Thursday, Alex says the team welcomes all players – regardless of experience, ability, sexuality or gender identity: “Creating and maintaining an LGBT+ team is vital for contributing to the diversity of LGBT life in Bristol and creating a supportive environment for LGBT people.”
The team is always on the lookout for new players to strengthen their team as it embarks on the upcoming season. To get in touch, visit www.bristolpanthers.com/contact
