Bristol Rovers sack manager Matt Taylor

By Martin Booth  Monday Dec 16, 2024

The writing has been on the wall for several weeks for beleaguered Bristol Rovers manager Matt Taylor, whose sacking was finally confirmed by the club on Monday morning.

Rovers currently sit one place above the relegation zone in League One after a run of three straight defeats.

In his last interview as manager after a 2-0 loss at Birmingham City on Saturday, Taylor spoke about the “negativity” currently surrounding the club.

A Bristol Rovers statement said: “Bristol Rovers FC can confirm that Manager Matt Taylor and Assistant Manager Wayne Carlisle have been relieved of their first team duties.

“The Club would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Matt and Wayne for all their hard work during their time with Bristol Rovers, and we wish them both every success in their respective future careers.

“David Horseman and Lee Cattermole will take interim responsibility for first-team football duties while the Club undertakes a thorough recruitment process for a new first-team manager.”
