City start Championship campaign sharing points with Saints
After being signed from Southampton in the summer, Lexi Lloyd-Smith returned to her former club with Bristol City for the first game of the Championship season and scored her new team’s only goal of the match in a 1-1 draw.
In some symmetry, Saints’ goal was scored by former Robin and SGS College pupil, Aimee Palmer.
City have started their first term back in the Championship with no manager after the surprising departure of Lauren Smith just 12 days ago, with caretaker boss Loren Dykes saying that she could “not be prouder” of her team and calling Lloyd-Smith “a fantastic player and a pleasure to work with”.
is needed now More than ever
Also talking to City’s media after the match, debutant Lloyd-Smith said: “It felt amazing. To be back at St Mary’s having something to prove and to do it in front of my friends and family, it was more than enough today…
“To be able to score today, it was more than just a goal. It was for my friends and my family, and meant a lot.”
Lloyd-Smith added: “It was a great performance from the girls. Gutted not to get the three points but this is just the start.”
