From consolidation to competing in the National League
Ahead of and during their first season in the National League, Bristol Rovers Women manager Nathan Hallett-Young has been talking of consolidation.
And yet on Sunday afternoon, the Gas Girls showed that they can compete with the best team in tier four.
Swindon had won all seven of their games before coming to the Memorial Stadium, where they were held to a one-all draw by Rovers.
is needed now More than ever
Gas Girls keeper George Hunt pulled off a string of fine saves before Meg Jarvis broke clear from a perfectly-weighted pass by Poppy Warren to score Rovers’ equaliser in injury time.
But despite one of his team’s best results of the season, Hallett-Young still spoke about consolidation after the final whistle.
“I think there has been some results that we’ve had in the last couple of weeks that have shown we have got real quality in depth and shown that we are moving in the right direction,” Hallett-Young told Bristol24/7.
“Consolidation is always the goal but I think we are finding our feet and we are finding it a lot earlier than we thought we would.
“For us, this is a huge result. A point against a team that’s been flying since the start of the season, they were seven wins from seven, and there were moments in that game where we could have probably pinched it.
“They’ve had their moments as well. If it wasn’t for George, I don’t think we’d have been in that position.
“But every single one of our players putting in big performances and making statements, so we’re doing the right things and hopefully it continues.”
