‘I would certainly pick Diedhiou over Taylor for Sunday’
It seems a bit of a cliché as a way to start the weeks offering, but: what a difference a week makes. At 5pm Saturday 18th August City had just lost their 2nd game of the week, against Middlesbrough, and were still searching for their first win of the new campaign. .
Then, just one week later pretty much the same side (3 changes) left the pitch at the Liberty Stadium having just managed their most complete away performance since last December. City took the early lead and were uncharacteristically able to hang-on for the next 90 minutes to record a famous victory.
The win seemed to be based on endeavour, epitomised by the front two of Weimann and Taylor who once again worked their socks off, defensive solidity and a high press. Tomas Kalas’ performance seems to have got City fans purring and one would expect the route back into the first team for Baker will not be an easy one.
is needed now More than ever
We also seem to have found a top quality Championship left-back in the shape of Lloyd Kelly. Many were unsure as to whether the young Bristolian’s best position was on the left or in the centre of defence and although his performances in the middle have been very decent it’s at full back for me that he has really shone. I know some people are getting a little carried away with their praise but it is hard to remember a player coming into the side at such a young age and making such a profound impression.
It would appear City are in the market for one more player judging by this weeks press conference, by the time you red this we may well have indeed singed someone, a midfielder would be my guess as cover for the injured Korey Smith. I have changed my mind on City’s need for a striker given the recent performances of Taylor.
The former Rovers man has certainly impressed in the two recent victories with many commenting on his work rate. I had felt that he is best used when playing off a big striker, but he has proved me somewhat wrong this past week. This being said, I would certainly pick Diedhiou over Taylor for Sunday.
City face a Blackburn side that have started the season well and look to have continued their form that saw them promoted last season from League One. Players to look out for include the former City target Bradley Dack who I’m reliably informed has been nothing short of sensational for the Lancashire club since signing for them last season. Dack has been linked with West Brom this week, but it would appear Blackburn have rejected any bids.
Let’s hope City can make it three wins in a row and go into the international break sitting in the top-six of the Championship, my prediction is that it’ll be a tight affair with City just edging it 2-1.
