Jarvis scores four as Rovers make it to FA Cup third round

By Martin Booth  Monday Nov 25, 2024

Bristol Rovers are in the hat for the third round of the FA Cup for the first time with manager Nathan Hallett-Jones saying that he would love to draw Bristol City now that Championship clubs are about to enter the competition.

The Gas Girls’ progress was helped immeasurably on Sunday afternoon by Meg Jarvis, who continued her sensational season by scoring four goals in Rovers’ 5-0 win at Marine Academy Plymouth.

“It’s a big achievement not just for me but for the club so I’m happy to be involved,” said Jarvis, who signed for Rovers in July and has since scored 20 goals in the league and the cup.

“We deserved that win, we played really well, the past few rounds we have, so we’re where we want to be.”

Rovers play in the fourth tier of English women’s football, with their neighbours in the south of the city playing in the second tier, and Rovers manager Nathan Hallett-Young is relishing the possibility of the first Bristol derby for many years.

As a recent video made by FanHub explained, the original Bristol Rovers Women eventually became Bristol City Women.

Hallett-Young said: “For me, I think, what a great draw it would be if we got the likes of a Bristol City at home. That would be huge for us. There hasn’t been a Bristol derby for a long time.

“That would be a massive draw but on the flip side I’m thinking it would be nice for us to get into the fourth round and keep this cup run alive.”

Hallett-Young once again praised the “unbelievable” contribution of Jarvis as well as the “outstanding” performance from the rest of his team.

“We said at the start of the season that she was a really good addition to the side and she has proven every point…

“I couldn’t be happier for her so it’s ideal and obviously today she was a joke.

“It’s so good having a number nine that is able to not just score goals but to assist and the work rate she has is second to none.”
