New season in new league will be new challenge for Gas Girls
Bristol Rovers Women’s begin their new season on Sunday as newcomers to the South West Regional Women’s League Northern Division.
Still only three years old, the reformed club – an award-winning initiative of Bristol Rovers Community Trust – won promotion at the first time of asking last season after their debut campaign was declared null and void due to the pandemic.
But despite being the newbies to the league, the Gas Girls will still be the team that others want to beat.
is needed now More than ever
Sunday afternoon’s game sees the team make the short trip up Gloucester Road North to Almondsbury, with Almondsbury doing the journey in reverse for the Gas Girls’ first home game of the new season at Lockleaze Sports Centre on September 19.
In between those two fixtures, the Gas Girls visit Pucklechurch Sports in the first qualifying round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Gas Girls left-back Poppy Warren said that going into a new league will be a “new challenge”.
“It’s been nice to have some new faces in as well. We’ve had time to gel together a little bit in the pre-season. I’m excited to get stuck in.”
She added: “Bristol Rovers is the best club I have definitely played for. The set-up feels really inclusive, everybody cares about we’re trying to achieve here. Everyone’s all-in and there are so many people who put in a lot of time for us, and we really appreciate it.”

Left-wing Annys Turner played for the University of Bristol first team before joining the Gas Girls.
“It’s a real honour to wear the badge,” she said. “I definitely think promotion is on the cards.
“We’ve been working so hard, it will be nice to have an undisrupted season just to prove to everyone that we are a very good team, we’re going places and we’re going to keep on getting promoted as far as we can.”
