Records smashed during summer of transfers

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Sep 1, 2016

Bristol City replaced their star striker Jonathan Kodjia with Swedish forward Gustav Engvall as the transfer deadline fell on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old international signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee to become the 12th new arrival at Ashton Gate over the summer.

Although the transfer fee was not published, it is likely to be considerably lower than the club record £15 million fee that City received for Kodjia who joined Aston Villa.

Kodjia left alongside other notable departures Kieran Agard and Luke Ayling. Engvall was the second striker to join City over the summer, with Tammy Abraham having arrived on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Rovers also signed two Chelsea youngsters – defender Clarke-Salter, 18, and midfielder Colkett, 19 – on loan on a transfer deadline day which also included the six-month loan signing of highly-rated Crystal Palace midfielder Hiram Boateng.

The club managed to hold on to star striker Matty Taylor who apparently snubbed moves to other clubs in favour of a new Rovers contract.
