School football team to represent Bristol Rovers at Wembley
A team from Mangotsfield School will represent Bristol Rovers in the final of the EFL Girl’s Cup at Wembley Stadium.
The side made up of Year 7 and 8 pupils will be playing on Wembley’s hallowed turf prior to the final of the Checkatrade Trophy on Sunday, March 31.
The girls travelled to Northampton University to take part in the Southern Regional Finals on Monday, competing against schools from Reading, Colchester and Gillingham, where they beat Reading 2-1 in the final.

Nathan Hallet-Young, head of women’s & girls at Bristol Rovers Community Trust, said: “We’re all incredibly proud of the girls and they fully deserve the chance to play at Wembley after the hard work they have put in today and in the previous tournaments.
“The level of football was very high and we really had to dig in to make sure we did enough to qualify for the final.
“Obviously, we can’t wait to walk down Wembley Way, especially if Bristol Rovers can join us by beating Sunderland at the Memorial Stadium next week.”
