Two goals from Jarvis help secure Rovers’ first National League win

By Martin Booth  Sunday Sep 1, 2024

Bristol Rovers Women have secured their first points in the National League following a 4-1 win at Abingdon United.

Meg Jarvis scored twice and had one assist for Rovers, with Daisy Ackerman and Nia Rees both also finding the net for the Gas Girls.

It means that Rovers have now won once and lost once in their first season in the National League Division One South West.

Rovers manager Nathan Hallett-Young said he was “buzzing” with his team’s first National League win.

He said: “It’s been coming. I know the results haven’t flattered us in the last couple of weeks but the performances have been there and we’re obviously delighted to get three points today…

“I’m looking forward to how we continue to progress. It’s been a really good day out.”

Hallett-Young said Jarvis’ performance against Abingdon was “unreal”, calling her “the heartbeat of our front line”, and praising her two goals and assist as well as her “unselfish” work off the ball.

Rovers return to the Memorial Stadium on September 8 to play Bridgwater United, who have won once and lost twice so far this season.
