‘Urban sports facility’ to open in former Debenhams

By Martin Booth  Thursday Dec 5, 2024

A skate park, roller derby rink and three-on-three basketball courts could be coming to Bristol’s empty Debenhams building.

An “urban sports facility” in the ground floor of the former department store could also include other games including pool, table tennis and table football as well as having a bar and cafe.

The upper floors of the building, which closed as a shop in 2021, will remain vacant.

An application to serve alcohol is for “a time limited licence” to expire on January 31 2028.

This is because planning permission has already been granted for a development on the site which includes a 28-storey tower.

The team behind the ambitious plans are the owners of the Dame pub on 43 Dean Lane in Bedminster.

Company directors of DEA Bar Ltd are Tim Noakes, Rayne Rose, Andre Seidel and Stephen Wallace; with Tim and Andre also running Campus Skateparks in Bishopsworth and Winterbourne.
