A north Bristol college is set to continue its trailblazing involvement in American football having announced a new partnership.
South Gloucestershire and Stroud (SGS) College have linked with the National American Football Programme with their facilities to be used as training bases for the GB Lions.
The under-19 and under-17 teams, who make up part of Great Britain’s representation on the international stage of American football, will have access to the campus in Filton to prepare and compete in the European Championships later in 2022.
Coach Herod from SGS College said: “Many of our most successful student-athletes over the years have also starred for the Great Britain Lions junior team, including former NFL defensive lineman Alex Jenkins”
He added: “We are delighted to able to assist in the programs preparation for their European qualifier later this year.”

The campus will also be the stage for the Canadian Football League (CFL) try-outs come spring.
20 athletes will be showcasing themselves on March 5 to catch the eyes of scouts and teams and hopefully gain an invite to the CFL Combine in Toronto later that month.
SGS College has been used in the past by Bristol City, Bristol Bears, the Kenyan Olympic Team, plus the Canada and Georgia National Rugby Squads.
The college is the base for PRIDE, an elite American football academy that has been setting the standard for junior American football in the UK and Europe for the past 15 years.
PRIDE is now recruiting for their September 2022 academic season for both their sixth form and university programs.
