Preliminary works have been completed on an inland surfing lake near Bristol with the construction phase of the ambitious project now beginning.

The Wave is on target to open in Easter Compton north of Cribbs Causeway in autumn 2019.

The 185m-long lake that lies at the heart of the project has been taking shape over the last three months, with a main contractor now appointed.

Wave CEO, Craig Stoddart, said: “We are pleased to welcome the Andrew Scott team on board as our main contractor and it’s incredibly exciting to be moving into the main build phase of the project.

“Seeing the shape of the lake appear makes everything feel very real. In less than a year people will be surfing in the middle of what is currently a field!”

The Wave will enable people of all ages and abilities to surf on consistent waves all year round, using ‘Cove’ technology generating up to one thousand quality waves per hour, with heights starting at 50cm and peaking at almost two metres.
