England’s adaptive surfing competition returns to Bristol destination for 2022
Bristol is becoming the unlikely destination helping to put surfing on the map with the return of a nationwide sporting contest.
The 2022 English Adaptive Surfing Open returns to The Wave on Thursday with competitors from across the country set to descend on the unique inland surf lake.
The growth of the event, which is going into its sixth year, is working to build the case for national funding to be made available to support a sport that’s increasing in popularity and lobby for inclusion in the Paralympic Games.
is needed now More than ever
This year’s competition is set to involve 40 athletes and will be the largest event to date.
Just two days prior to the competition, the Easter Compton site will also play host to The Queen’s Baton Relay, which is making its way across the Commonwealth in a 294-day long tour spanning 2,500 miles.
The Wave will be giving away 1,000 free surf lessons as part of its Royal Wave campaign, an initiative to share the positive benefits of water and waves.
People are welcome to visit and watch the adaptive surfing competition at The Wave and will need to purchase a spectator pass for £2 in advance. Book via www.thewave.com/spectator-pass/
