Bears narrowly beaten by Gloucester in first game of new hoops era

By Martin Booth  Friday Sep 27, 2024

Bristol Bears never fail to entertain and their new hoops era is no exception.

It was so close on Friday night against Gloucester but Pat Lam’s men narrowly fell by 44 points to 41 in a nail-biting game of rugby with 11 tries scored by the two teams.

Bristol’s tries came courtesy of two from Max Malins and one each from Gabriel Ibitoye, Siva Naulago, Harry Randall and Rich Lane.

But a hat-trick from Christian Wade, signed in the summer from Racing 92 following a stint in the NFL, proved to be the difference between the West Country rivals.

Gloucester were reduced to 14 players with ten minutes of the match remaining, Lane’s try then pulled the scores level but a penalty than took the cherry and whites three points clear and despite a great attacking lineout, Bristol failed to score and fell just short of a famous victory.
