Fitz Harding hattrick but Bears heartbreak against Saracens

By Martin Booth  Saturday Oct 19, 2024

There has been plenty of talk recently about two Bears players called Gabriel – Ibitoye and Oghre – being called up into the national squad alongside their Bristol teammates Ellis Genge and Harry Randall.

England manager Steve Borthwick was in attendance at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon to watch first place Bristol Bears take on second place Saracens.

And as well as watching a thrilling game of rugby which Saracens won thanks to a penalty with the last kick of the game, he would have been impressed by both Gabriels, in particularly by Oghre, a hooker who is also a brilliant runner with the ball.

There could also be another Bear on Borthwick’s radar: captain Fitz Harding who scored three tries while almost leading his team to victory.

This top of the table clash saw Saracens win 37-35 and leapfrog Pat Lam’s men at the top of the Premiership table.

The men’s match was also the second in a double-header of games at Ashton Gate which also saw Saracens win 41-24.
