Jordie Barrett scores on Leinster debut as Bristol convincingly beaten

By Martin Booth  Sunday Dec 8, 2024

Two global rugby superstars took to the pitch at Ashton Gate on Sunday evening as Bristol lost 35-12 to Leinster, conceding four tries in the second half after going into half-time at 7-7.

Following her recent signing, Ilona Maher was introduced to Ashton Gate at the interval after sharing to her 4.6m followers on Instagram earlier in the day that she had enjoyed a Sunday lunch in the Bank Tavern.

And then at the start of the second half, Jordie Barrett made his debut for Leinster, the All Black rumoured to have been a Bristol target before signing for the runaway United Rugby Championship leaders.

Within minutes, he had made one try and scored another as Leinster turned the screw after what had been a closely-fought first 40.

In blustery conditions, this Champions Cup clash was a took almost half an hour for the first points to be put on the board thanks to a try from Max Lahiff.

Following the introduction of Barrett, however, the second half was an entirely different proposition.

It wouldn’t be a Bears game this season without a try from Gabriel Ibitoye but it was only a consolation with the four-time European champions just too good for Bristol.
