YouTube sensation signs for Bristol Bears

By Bristol24/7  Sunday Aug 11, 2019

Tyrese Johnson-Fisher has been handed an opportunity in professional rugby at Bristol Bears.

The British speedster received worldwide exposure in 2015 when his four-try exploits for Oakham School in a NatWest Schools Cup fixture amassed more than 2.5m views on YouTube:

19 year-old Johnson-Fisher – who won the 60m National Indoor Finals in 6.89 seconds and ranked third in the country in the U17 100m sprint with his time of 10.73 seconds – links up with the Bears on a one-year senior deal with immediate effect.

Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam said: “Although he’s a raw talent, he’s an explosive athlete with blistering pace. His hunger to succeed and grow as a player was obvious when talking with him and I believe our rugby programme and team culture will give him every opportunity to succeed.”

Johnson-Fisher became the first athlete outside of the US to play in the 2018 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game.

The former Leicester Tigers academy winger spent last year at Coastal Carolina University as a running back.

Johnson-Fisher said: “I’m grateful to Pat and Bristol Bears for showing faith in me and giving me this chance in professional rugby.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me and one I’m determined to take advantage of. Bristol are one of the most forward thinking clubs in the country and I’m excited to get started and repay the trust they’ve shown in me.”
