Bristol-born Katie Swan receives Wimbledon wildcard
Nineteen-year-old Katie Swan has been awarded a wildcard at both the singles and the doubles at this year’s Wimbledon.
The Bristol-born tennis player is currently ranked 206 in the world in singles and 293 in the doubles.
This means that she was not high enough to automatically qualify, and so instead has been selected by the committee to compete at the tournament which begins on July 2.
is needed now More than ever
Earlier this year, Swan qualified for a WTA Tour event for the first time with victory in qualifying at the Nottingham Open.
Having started playing tennis at seven years old, Swan’s burgeoning talent was spotted while growing up in Abbots Leigh.
She was coached by Rob Hawkins at David Lloyd until the age of 11 and won her first international tournament in Croatia at the age of 10, going on to play on the competitive junior circuit while still at school.
In January this year, Swan signed with 77 Sports Management, headed up by Andy Murray and two of his business advisers.
