If you’re anything like me, you would have chosen to study at a in Bristol university because of the amazing culture.

Maybe it was the amazing arts and theatre scenes, the music or the nightlife; maybe it was the prospect of being able to contribute to the fabric of a city full of diversity and community. Either way, there was something about the identity of Bristol that drew you in and you couldn’t let go.

With the pandemic and lockdown, you might be feeling a bit deflated. The vision that you had for your first few months in the city has certainly changed. But rest assured – Bristol is a resilient city.

With a growing online culture, you can still experience some of the best Bristol has to offer. From festivals, to film and literature, there are still many cultural contributors that are determined to shine a light on their work. Here’s a brief list of some of the Bristol-based events that you can look forward to from the comfort of your home.

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery online (free)
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery has put many art and cultural exhibitions over the years, and npw have a great range of online content to peruse through. Each one offers different sources of information to make the exhibits as immersive as possible, including podcasts, videos and photographs.

Festival in the Clouds: June 22 – November 30, 2020 (free)
If you consider yourself to be someone that loves getting lost in books, this online event may just be for you. This literary and arts festival brings together some of the many creative talents, past and present, from the seaside town of Clevedon. With a line up including a comic art masterclass and online talks on the history of the Curzon Cinema, this event is set to inspire all with an interest in literature, art and reading.

MUBI, from Watershed (three months free)
Watershed is a beloved independent cinema and event venue right in Harbourside. Supporting independent cinema, both old and new has been at the heart of what they do. And while they aren’t able to host the same festivals and events as they have done in the past, they are still using online spaces to bring the magic of cinema to you.

As a gift to all the movie lovers out there, Watershed are offering three months free of Mubi, a subscription bases movie streaming services for all the movie lovers out there. From independent cinema to Hollywood blockbusters, foreign film and cinema classics, Mubi offers its subscribers a new film every day from across the globe.

Bristol is a rich, vibrant city, full of new things to discover both in person and online. These are just a few tasters of Bristol’s digital world. I have no doubt that there’s more for you to find.
