Beyond the triangle
Before long, you will become all-too-familiar with the student hub that is the Triangle. While the shopping and drinking delights of Queen’s Road and Park Street are convenient, a huge bonus of living in a vibrant city like Bristol is how easy it is to discover new places away from campus. If you want to explore what Bristol has to offer, we’ve gathered a few suggestions to help get you started.
HARBOURSIDE & AROUND
What to Do: Watershed has a brilliant selection of art house and cultural films (as well as a great café). Stay tuned with contemporary art gallery the Arnolfini; its free Grayson Perry exhibition is on until Christmas. For professional theatre, the Bristol Old Vic is one of the most critically acclaimed theatres in the U.K.

Where to Drink: Student staple The Apple is a cider pub on a boat- need we say more? Bristol is famous for its craft ciders, and with plenty more seating on the immediate shore, the Apple’s a popular spot when the weather’s warm.
OLD CITY
What to Do: St Nicholas Market and the Glass Arcade offer great shopping including food, gifts, clothes, and textiles, as well as varied street food stalls for a cheap and tasty lunch.
Where to Eat: Aside from the St Nick’s food stalls and Source, the Old City is a coffee-shop haven, with both Small St. Espresso and Full Court Press.
Where to Drink: Chance & Counters at the bottom of the Christmas Steps is a board game café/bar, while The Milk Thistle’s quirky and lavish interiors, ‘prohibition’-era vibe and extensive artisan cocktails will do the trick.
