Bristol24/7 Student Guide 2020: The best places to get takeaway
Oowee Vegan
Not to be confused with Oowee Diner. They are, however, part of the same chain, yet this one is the vegan alternative. I’m totally dumbfounded that everything from here is vegan.
The portion sizes are huge and the fries definitely need sharing, not that that’s a complaint. Even for the most carnivorous of us, it must be hard to realise their food is not real meat.
I’m not really sure how they were able to create vegan prawns and to be frank, I also don’t particularly care as they are so delicious.
Joe’s Bakery
Located towards the bottom of Gloucester Road, Joe’s Bakery is a wonderful alternative to bigger bakery chains dispersed across the city.
Loved for their low prices but high quality food, this place is cheap and cheerful. They are super inclusive and have an have a wonderful selection available for vegans and vegetarians. Also, they sell the largest yum yums you’ve ever seen. Although, you’ll have to get in there quick to grab the best deals, as they sell out fast!

Yakinori
Every Japanese food lover’s dream! On Sundays, they even do 50 per cent off sushi. You can try nearly everything on their menu and still be left wanting more.
This place is a great independent alternative to the much-loved bigger Japanese chain up the street.

Eat a Pitta
Come here for a jam packed lunch box! With multiple stores across the city, you are never far from a delicious lunch. As a big fan of Middle Eastern food, I had high expectations and I was not disappointed.
Everything is veggie friendly and bursting with flavour. Some of their locations even give out free samples of falafel outside. Not an opportunity to be missed.
Oh! Calcutta!
With a “bring your own booze” policy, a very reasonably priced menu, and the sheer amount of tasty options, it’s not hard to see why this place is always packed full of customers (in regular times, anyway). This is one to visit soon!
Taka Taka
Taka Taka gets it right every single time. With multiple locations across the city, you’re never far from your next magic roll.
Taka Taka bridges the gap between daytime and nighttime cuisine. However, this place isn’t just a takeaway spot, each one has a seating area, so you can enjoy the full experience. There’s a reason why Taka Taka has so many rave reviews and regular customers.

It even has great variety for vegetarians, including their incredible halloumi wrap. It is easy to see why this place is one of the most popular places for takeaways among students and locals alike.
Grecian
Located just off Gloucester Road – don’t let the Grecian’s name fool you – this place doesn’t sell that much Greek food.
In fact, it’s more of an amalgamation of American, Italian and Middle Eastern.
The pizzas here are amazing, especially for only £5. Another day-through-night spot, this place is especially favoured because of their lengthy open hours.
