Vivienne Baker: Paintings

Date: Friday, Dec 8 2017 - Wednesday, Dec 13 2017
Venue: Centrespace
Artists
Vivienne Baker

Paintings by Spike Island-based artist Vivienne Baker.

“The images/memories that Vivienne uses as starting points for paintings are all places that she has encountered but changed and distorted during the painting process to reveal something new, capturing perhaps only the essence of a place or memory.

“She makes use of low-tech photographic resources and exploits the distortion and interference that often occurs with low-quality source images. She uses traditional materials, oil on canvas, applied with untraditional tools such as paint rollers and spray guns and Chinese brushes.

“The images evolve through a slow multi-layering process, creating undefined spaces that the viewer sometimes has to work to interpret with areas appearing to move between being space or solid form. She uses strong and unexpected colour combinations to describe space.”

Vivienne has exhibited widely, featuring in more than 40 exhibitions, of which 12 were solo shows. She is currently a studio holder at Spike Island, Bristol.

Dec 8-13. Private View Sat 9 6-9pm. Open daily 12-6pm.
