Limanya by Nimba African Dance & Music
Nimba, a Cardiff-based African arts company directed by Idrissa Camara, bring a sub-Saharan musical journey to Circomedia this February. Limanya will be a showcase of what’s in store for festivals around the world later this year.
Led by the inimitable Idrissa Camara, Nimba’s performances flow from high energy to reflective and lyrical, touching on musical traditions stretching back hundreds of years and now rightly finding its place in the complex and changing musical world of the 21st century.
Nimba Performing Arts company is named after the Guinean mask which represents creative strength and the joy of living.
is needed now More than ever
Their dance performance, Limanya, meaning ‘courage’, is a accompanied by some remarkable musicians – a mix of strings (kora, ngoni, bolong bata), drumming and percussion (kirinn, dundun, gongong) entwined with the sounds of the Fula flute and soaring vocals.
You can also catch Idrissa and some of the musicians at their workshop at Trinity on Saturday, February 2.
