In his films distributed by American production company First National between 1918 and 1923, Charlie Chaplin progressed from two-reelers to films of short feature length, culminating in The Kid. This Slapstick Festival event offers a rare opportunity to see two of the best of those shorts. In The Idle Class, he plays the dual roles of a neglectful and alcoholic rich husband and his double, the Little Tramp. In Payday, after a difficult day at work our hero tries to enjoy his pay day without his wife knowing. This screening includes an introduction by Chaplin’s biographer, David Robinson.
