The Hippopotamus + Stephen Fry satellite Q&A

Director
John Jencks
Certificate
15
Running Time
89 mins

Disgraced, whisky-sodden poet Ted Wallace (Roger Allam) is lured to his chums Lord and Lady Logan’s (Matthew Modine, Fiona Shaw) country manor with the promise of a £100,000 fee to investigate a series of apparent ‘miracle healings’. The alleged healer is their sex-obsessed youngest son. Naturally, his parents are eager to share the boy’s ‘gift’ with the world. Wallace is equally keen to debunk the preposterous claims.

Allam is perfectly cast in this adaptation of Stephen Fry‘s semi-epistolary 1994 novel. It finally gets a cinema release, having been shot back in 2015. This preview screening is followed by a Q&A with Fry and the cast broadcast live from the Hay Literary Festival.
