The Producers

Director
Mel Brooks
Certificate
PG
Running Time
88 mins

Yes, it’s the Mel Brooks film that inspired a stage musical and, erm, subsequently a film of the stage musical. You know the story: the fortunes of a has-been Broadway producer (Zero Mostel) are revived when his accountant (Gene Wilder) reveals that it might be possible to make more money out of a calamitous flop than out of a smash hit. Cue: the taste-free Springtime for Hitler.

Back in 2017, this comedy classic got the full 4K 50th anniversary restoration treatment, affording us all an opportunity to reflect on the many, many reasons why they’d never get away with making it in the age of taking offence.
