The Witches of Eastwick

Director
George Miller
Certificate
18
Running Time
118 mins

Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon and Cher are three friends in a small New England town who meet from time to time, drink, talk about men and cast a few spells – all in fun, of course. But that’s how rich charmer Jack Nicholson moves into the huge mansion just outside town. One by one, the women are seduced by Jack, but it doesn’t take them too long to realise that it is they who wield the real power. Naturally Jack opts for spiteful revenge, reprising his demented performance from The Shining. Mad Max director George Miller mars the finale with some naff special effects and the ending makes no sense at all. Nonetheless, this is an often hysterically funny and tremendously enjoyable film.

It’s back on screen in the Watershed’s Reclaiming the Witch season.
