L7: Pretend We’re Dead

Director
Sarah Price
Certificate
TBA
Running Time
82 mins

Two things everyone knows about L7: (1) while supporting Nirvana at the Reading Festival in 1992, Donita Sparks removed her tampon and chucked it at the hostile audience; (2) while appearing on The Word (an achingly hip, now horribly dated C4 yoof show, m’lud) that same year, feisty Ms. Sparks delivered an, ahem “full frontal outrage”.

Sarah Price‘s crowd-funded documentary delves behind the headlines to chart the feminist band’s “rags to riches to rags” story, taking in the early years when they struggled to find their place (one night they were supporting Motley Crue, the next it was Bad Religion) before relocating to Seattle and falling in with the mopey grunge crowd.

Interviewees include Joan Jett, Lydia Lunch and Krist Novoselic.
