Summer in the Forest

Director
Randall Wright
Certificate
PG
Running Time
108 mins

Philippe, Michel, Andre and Patrick were once labelled ‘idiots’ and dumped in violent asylums. Then, in the 1960s, young philosopher Jean Vanier secured their release. Together they established the idyllic commune L’Arche on the edge of a forest near Paris.

Now in his eighties, Vanier still lives there. Randall Wright‘s documentary introduces us to the residents of L’Arche and reveals more about their lives. Sight & Sound called it “exceptionally moving”, while the Grauniad‘s verdict was that it is “breathtakingly beautiful”.
