It’s the ultimate comeback story: feted during the ’50s and ’60s, English folk queen Shirley Collins suffered a major trauma in the 1970s when her hubby ran off with another woman, who took to rubbing salt in the wounds by showing up at her gigs wearing one of his authentic folky jumpers. Collins dramatically lost her voice on stage and didn’t sing again for nearly 38 years. Filmed over three years, The Ballad of Shirley Collins follows her unexpected comeback at the age of 82 with a new album, Lodestar.
The Cube’s screening will be followed by a discussion with singer/songwriter Alasdair Roberts and those involved in making the film
