A Fantastic Woman

Director
Sebastián Lelio
Certificate
15
Running Time
104 mins

Transgender waitress and nightclub singer Marina Vidal (Daniela Vega) enjoys a blissful, very physical relationship with older, divorced executive Orlando (Francisco Reyes). But after a birthday dinner, the unfortunate fella suffers a fatal aneurysm. Rather than being treated with sympathy, she’s now viewed with suspicion and prejudice by the authorities. Bruising that the dead man sustained while being taken to hospital leads to a degrading police investigation. Worse is to come when Orlando’s family treat Marina with unconcealed hostility.

Chilean director Sebastian Lelio‘s follow up to Gloria is a compassionate and timely, Oscar winning (Best Foreign Language Film) drama, with a great central performance by transgender actor Daniela Vega.
