Afrika Eye 2018: A World Apart + director Q&A

Director
Chris Menges
Certificate
PG
Running Time
113 mins

Ace cameraman Chris Menges turned director with this 1989 film that was, predictably enough, compared to Cry Freedom. Set in South Africa in 1983, Shawn Slovo‘s autobiographical screenplay focuses on the relationship between radical journalist and anti-apartheid activist  Diana (Barbara Hershey) and 13-year-old daughter Molly (Jodhi May). An extremely powerful film, highly atmospheric and made with great integrity, it’s guaranteed to bring a lump to the throat.

Director Chris Menges will be present for a Q&A session after this screening, which is part of Afrika Eye 2018.
