Bristol Palestine Film Festival: The Insult

Director
Ziad Doueiri
Certificate
15
Running Time
122 mins

In modern-day Beirut, a minor dispute between Tony (Adel Karam), a Lebanese Christian, and Yasser (Kamel El Basha), a Palestinian refugee, is blown out of all proportion and winds up in court, drawing a media circus as decades of animosity boil over.

Kamel El Basha became the first Palestinian to win Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for his performance in this taut, timely and symbolic Lebanese drama, which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Trivia note: director Ziad Doueiri is a long-time collaborator with Quentin Tarantino, working as cameraman on Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. The film gets its first local screenings as part of the Bristol Palestine Film Festival.
