Spike Lee followed his controversial, intermittently brilliant Malcolm X with a return to small-scale filmmaking in the form of this semi-autobiographical comedy-drama about an African-American family living in 1970s Brooklyn. Alas, it’s all rather uneven in tone and proved such a box office flop in the US that it didn’t receive a proper UK release.

This is a rare chance to catch the film on the big screen, as it’s back in the Watershed’s Summer of Spike August Sunday brunch season of Spike Lee flicks to complement the release of BlacKkKlansman.
